week-2-newsletter

Greetings once again!

Sorry the troubles regarding misinformation and emails being sent out twice: we were having a slight problem with our systems.  Thank you to everyone that has attempted to show up for screenings, only to be greeted by an empty room.  HAVE NO FEAR! Screenings are on this time! Aside from that, a lot of things will be happening for the next two weeks, so we’ll keep in touch!

Upcoming Events!

Screenings

Screenings WILL start this week at the following locations.  Maps to each place and information on each series can be found in our website.  Aside from the exchange in date between “Durarara!!” and “Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu”, everything else is the same.  “Kimi ni Todoke” is now on Thursday. Remember, these occur during 1-2PM over three days at these locations, starting week 2.  Drop by for a chat and a view if you have some time! Please visit our screenings page for more information.
Tuesday: Wilkinson Bld., Architecture Lecture Theatre 3; “Durarara!!”
Wednesday: Carslaw Building, Carslaw Lecture Theatre 375; “The Idiot, Tests, and Summoned Creatures” (Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu)
Thursday: Chemistry Building, Chemistry Lecture Theatre 2; “Kimi ni Todoke” + Random screenings every week
For reference, there is a map on the back of the Union-issue 2010 Planner.  The coordinates here ARE DIFFERENT from the Venues website listed in our Screenings Info. For: Wilkinson Building: see M6 on the map; Carslaw Building: see K6 and L6 on the map; Chemistry Building: see J5 on the map.  (Lecture Theatre 2 is in “Chemistry Lecture Hall”).

Art Socials

Art Socials begin THIS WEEK on Wentworth Level 4.  Due to some unforeseen circumstances, the date has been changed from Wednesday to Monday!  Anyone free at that time may stay around to eat as well. For any more details, be sure to contact arts@suanime.org .
When: Monday at 1-3PM
Where: Wentworth Level 4, near the pool tables; look out for the SUAnime banner!

Upcoming-Upcoming Events!

Mini-Animania 2010

Guess what?  The first convention of the year, mini-Animania, is BACK!  Time sure does fly, does it not?  SUAnime will be there as well.  So if you are attending, feel free to drop by and say hello and have a great time! Find more information and the events held at the convention at their website.
When: Saturday 20th March 2010 (Week 3)
Time: Gates open around 10AM, and wraps up at 4PM.
Where: Australia Technology Park, Eveleigh (Just next door to USyd!)
Price: Advance Sales Prices (Online): Adult= $26.50  Child= $16.50; At the door: Adult= $25.00  Child= $15.00
Why is Advance tickets more expensive? It helps you avoid the queues at the door on the day.  Otherwise, you might have to either arrive at 6AM or standby in line for some hours.

Welcome BBQ!

Our traditional Welcome BBQ will be postponed to Week 3 – keep an eye out for announcements soon!
That’s it for now.  Keep an eye out for other updates on our website!
Best regards,

Trivia Night #2!

September 18th, 2009 by Zuiko

WHEN: Friday, 25th September, 6-9PM

WHERE: Carslaw 351

WHY: Why not

Hey look the trivia is here! Again!

The Trivia Night, also known as the Shameless Excuse To Sit Around A Room In Carslaw Eating Pizza And Watching Suzaku Laugh For Ten Minutes, was a hit last year (all right, a light tap) and this time we are giving more advance notice like we are supposed to!

The idea is simple: Show up, have something to drink, do some trivia, have some pizza, and hang out. Mostly the trivia part. The questions are mostly multiple choice, but I’m going to try and mix it up this year with some different things. The questions are mostly anime-related because otherwise it would just be silly, but we do our best to make the trivia accessible to everyone.  To give you an idea, here are some sample questions from last time:

Which of the following anime series is NOT based on an RPG?
a) Tales of the Abyss
b) Valkyria Chronicles
c) Phantom of Inferno
d) Star Ocean

Which of these is not a Pokemon?
a) Charmander
b) Blaziken
c) Darkrai
d) Yoshi

In TTGL, Simon leaps through time and space to stop Rossiu from killing himself by…
a) Talking him out of it
b) Tying him up
c) Forgiving him
d) Punching him in the face

(No you don’t need to send me the answers. I forgot them anyway!)

There are all kinds of categories ranging from the latest season of anime to the oldest shows to Janken King to Books Written By People Who Were Assassinated By The Irish Republican Army (back by popular demand!). Prizes are up for grabs, though personally I think the good times and the pizza are reward enough.

It is free entry, though there is a pizza tax ($5 for members and $8 nonmembers, which gets you a whole pizza to yourself and a free drink). Additional drinks are probably  $1.

RSVP to me at events@suanime.org by noon on Thursday the 24thwith the usual details. Specify a pizza preference as well because we are going to order the pizza shortly after six, and you can either give your pizza pref in email, show up ON TIME or beg for scraps.

See you there!

Annual General Meeting!

September 15th, 2009 by saki

This is the major get-together where the elections for the new exec team for 2009/2010 are held! The sum of it is that ANY club member (that is you have signed up as a member some time during this year, which means you also have an ACCESS card) can nominate themselves or accept nominations for any exec position(s) AND you can vote in the elections of your fellow peers too! To nominate for or to find out more about a position send an email to personnel@suanime.org

WHEN: 6 – 9 pm, Friday 9th October

WHERE: Eastern Avenue Seminar Room 116

We will also be discussing amendments to our constitution at the AGM. The constitution of the club states how we manage the club. The executive team is proposing the following amendments to the constitution to be discussed and possibly voted upon at the AGM:

Motion 1: To change the number of times to meet per semester for an ordinary meeting to every four (4) weeks. An ordinary meeting is the place where you as a member can discuss and help plan events etc of the club – to participate in the running of the club without necessarily being an exec! XD

Motion 2: To discuss the executive position, the Librarian, and its possible future role in the club. (I wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t know there was even a Librarian exec – the librarian has been very, very quiet…! =P)

 Hope to see you there!
